Our JFC Volunteers collaborated again with Tae Sawan School to hold a bilingual camp on 22nd November. This time, 53 preschool students joined 62 lower primary students joined in the fun programmes practicing English and Chinese language skills. The camp began with the students dramatizing the true meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ. The Tae Sawan School teachers made three big camels for the wise men to ride in, and very cute animal headbands for the pre-school children. JFC volunteers made costumes and props for the human roles.

Next, the students practised language skills at six language stations: the Multicultural Snacks Station, Shopping Station, paper-cutting, online language activities, and action songs in English and Chinese.

Joy Foundation Community Day - 23 Nov
JFC Volunteers were split into two teams, one at Nom Somboon Village and the other at Joy Foundation Centre.
Team One at Nom Somboon Village did the same dramatization of the Christmas Story with the children, while the ladies’ group taught dancing. Over at Joy Foundation Centre, Team Two taught English Language through play. Deborah, a physiotherapist with a clinic in Chiangmai, did treatment throughout the day for villagers. Mdm Lapon once again came to prepare her signature rice noodles soup, relished by young and old.
In the afternoon, activities continued at Joy Foundation Centre with games activities like Bingo, Blind-Pass Flour, Speed Stacked Cup, sale of produce by villagers as well as JFC mushrooms and organic coffee. During the concert, the children performed a skit of the Nativity Story, followed by a graceful dance by Tae Sawan School dancers. Next was a lively tambourine dance by the children who took just one hour to learn it. After this, JFC volunteers sang a Christmas carol, ‘Joy to the World’. This was followed by speeches by JFC Director Prof Tan Ngoh Tiong and the Ban Suan village representative. Finally, everyone sat down to a sumptuous dinner

Joy Foundation Farm Projects
With the goal of sustainable agriculture and community development, we have started fish farming, planted many fruit trees and developed a mushroom farm at Eden.
Using aquaponics and permaculture principles we will produce organic food, vegetables and other farm produce to be self-reliant first and then become a sustainable social enterprise. Joy Foods is the business wing of Good Harvest International in support of Joy Foundation.
We will, in collaboration with Mae Fah Leung University, and the community develop a healing garden with herbs and medicinal plants. Along it will also be a tropical garden filled with flowers and plants of the region. In collaboration with the Chiangmai Mushroom Research Center we have started growing Linzhi, Cordyceps, Angel and other mushrooms. Our nursery for vegetables, ginger and turmeric, and organic farm with figs, and cacao, sugar cane and bananas and even durian trees are already up and running.

Joy Water
When Joy Foundation first came to Noam Somboon, the chief request of the villagers was to have good clean drinking water so that they would not need to buy water from surrounding villages.

The water, tested by Singapore’s and Chiangmai authorities’ stringent analysis is slightly alkaline and excellent
We are in the final stages of obtaining license for bottling and selling good quality water to the community and starting to have income generation projects to sustain the charity. Affordable Joy Water will be the hallmark brand for the villages around.

Support
Going forward Joy Foundation needs volunteers and support of the staff, to run the farming and community projects. We invite volunteers to participate in community services and learn about organic farming, fish and mushroom cultivation as well as to teach language classes.
Submit the volunteer form here.
Joy Foundation has just launched the water project having obtained the licence from the Food and Drug Administration, Thailand. Joy Foundation met with Thai veterans and they were very supportive of the Joy Water and tested it at our water factory.
